임현중 Im Hyunjoong (b. 2001) +82-10-9028-1622 | hjhj1622@gmail.com
Im Hyunjoong uses the dystopian imagination of vintage science fiction as a tool to deconstruct contemporary landscapes, focusing on works that rearrange the present into a scene from a future that has already passed. Resisting the smoothness of self-illuminating digital screens, the artist explores the materiality of painting—specifically, how it refracts and reflects external light through the dense, layered texture of oil paint.
Through the <Redshifted Future> series, which captures the points where the present and future overlap based on a loose narrative; the <Lagrangian home> series, inspired by the artist’s hometown; and the <65.153> series, which archives various mechanical structures,
he is constructing a unique world of two-dimensional painting. His works, executed with dense brushstrokes, represent a process of creating his own “slow world”—one imbued with a sense of weight—amidst an era of endless acceleration.
